Name That Kune

Our little boar is in desperate need of a moniker.

To date, we have magnificently managed to name two new llamas, seven chickens, nine cats and two puppies. But we are struggling with a suitable label for He who is currently known as Little Pig.

Those of you quick off the mark, who have already perused the most recent piggy posts, and marvelled at the stunning video footage of our handsome porkers, may have detected a small green caption on the video (which I think Simon has now amended) describing him as Jimmy. Jimmy is the name that Simon thought he liked best out of the 101 Great Names for a Pig that I have recited to him over the last couple of weeks. Until he started using it.

“It just doesn’t sound like a big boar’s name” he mused, as we circumnavigated the Plan d’Eau with the strangely subdued puppies, yesterday lunch time. I considered the matter. “It does if you say it in a Glaswegian accent”, I replied. “Plus…we can call him James, when he’s naughty”.

But since it was never one of my favourite suggestions, I didn’t put up much resistance to the idea of a name change at this stage. I’m pretty sure that Little Pig doesn’t know he has been Jimmy Pig for about four days. And (unlike the puppies) he comes, whether you call him or not. In fact the problem is actually how to go anywhere near his field, without him galumphing across the muddy plain directly towards you, like a magnetically-attracted ginger and black pudding.

Simon wouldn’t let me call him Tossa (as in Ginger Tossa), and any names that are remotely linked to puns on various cuts of charcuterie (Hamlet, Francis Bacon etc) are most definitely OUT, because a) they have all been done before, and b) they stop being remotely amusing after about the second time of using.

We have toyed with Boris, experimented with Lenny, and messed around with Trotsy, Chomsky and Chester. But we can’t seem to agree on anything that is Just Right. So as Little Pig approaches a nameless adolescence, we have decided that it may be time to enlist outside assistance.

So maybe, kind and helpful readers, you might take a look at Little Pig’s most recent starring role, and let us know if any pig-perfect names spring to your generous and creative minds.

And you’d better be quick. We’re expecting a further sty-load of nameless little piggies within the next couple of weeks.

  1. Sue suggests “Boris” and I suggest “Spotty” (Spotty Pig).

    Rgds, Mike & Sue

  2. Colin says:

    Hey Crasher! How you doing?
    What about Foggy?
He was a pig – but a great rider!
    Love Col x

  3. Chris says:

How about Guinea? Not too unlike Jimmy so he won’t be confused. Then again he looks a bit like a small pet we once had!

  4. Noreen says:

I think Chris’s name is good…Guinea! I’m can’t think of anything suitable for myself.

  5. Nikita says:

    Dr. Sus
    Notorious P.I.G
Tonton (name of an anime pig; ton [豚] being the character for pig)

    • Simon says:

I’m impressed by the multi-lingual references in your suggestions Nikita! Dr Sus had me puzzled for a while, until I remembered the Latin . . . but I think it might be too ‘clever’ 🙂

Tonton is under active consideration, perhaps for one of the piglets. Could be entertainingly confusing for the French, who seem to use Tintin commonly as a name for pets.

And for any readers who might still be puzzled, sus scrofa is the latin biological name for the pig.

  6. Noreen says:

Oh Boy! Now this is getting beyond me….French/Latin…whatever next?!!
