Twelve Tuesday Thoughts

The snow has brought with it a freeze on action. No Things get done. We do the usual daily tasks, and then retreat to the warm safety of our little house along with all the cats and dogs. It’s even difficult to get stuff done inside the house when it is full of animals. Dogs think sweeping is a game. Cats think dust-sheets to protect furniture from dripping paint are an even better game. And so we wait. We sit and wait for the rain to arrive and wash away this cold white stuff that has us and our little farm paralysed.

In the absence of any Happening Things to write about, here, to fill a space where an interesting blog post ought to be, are a few Thoughts and Observations.

1. One of the Really Good Things about having eight cats is that there is always one that wants to sit on your lap.
2. Foxes are easy to spot in the snow.
3. Robins like pig food.
4. Falling snow is not silent – it hisses in the hedges. (This is a recent observation made possible by the complete absence of any other noise.)
5. Wet fingers stick to icy metal gates (ouch).
6. Puppies eat snow (and then wee a lot).
7. Chickens eat snow.
8. Cats don’t eat snow.
9. Pedro likes shagging in the snow.
10. Pig poo is impossible to find and clear up in snow.
11. Even when there is no moonlight, you don’t need a torch to walk in dark lanes when the ground is white.
12. Chewing gum stops you falling over on the ice.

And just for interest, here’s a link to a site that relates to point 4 above: “The Sound of Snow and Ice – Various Artists”. It’s hard to believe that so many people spend their time burying microphones in ice and snow to record such riveting and amazing things as people walking about. However, the first recording in the list by Abinadi Meza is a bit interesting, and “Lake Ice Booming” by Curt Olson (eighth one down) is pretty cool.

What can I say? As I believe I have already mentioned, I clearly have too much time on my hands.

Cool-ha ha! How does chewing gum stop you falling over on the ice?

  2. Val says:

By sticking your feet to the ground lol. Actually, chewing gum improves concentration (and thus balance).
