More self sufficiency

Courtesy of a large ash tree that must have fallen several years ago, we are likely to be self sufficient for heating wood this winter.

I’ve fitted a new chain to the chain-saw and dug out the splitting axe and sledge hammer. Lots of physical work, reminding me of the old saying

Firewood warms you twice; once when you cut it and once when you burn it.

One of our chickens is missing . . . .

Yesterday, as dusky chicken bed-time approached, we realised that only four chickens had gathered for the usual final snack. Naughty Chicken (long my favourite) was not there.

And the Winning Entry is . . . . .

Fogarty!

From this day forward our little boar will be known as Hog Fogarty (or Foggy for short), in honour of the most successful World Superbike racer of all time, renowned for his high corner speed riding style, aggressive competitiveness, and loud squealing when he didn’t get what he wanted. Yes, Colin-from-the Black-Country, you are our winning contestant on Name That Kune. And, as well as the warm glow inside that you will undoubtedly be experiencing as a result of having achieved the status of Winner, you will also be rewarded with the first plate of Fogarty Bacon, should the boar in question fail to live up to our procreative expectations of him. Name That Kune

Our little boar is in desperate need of a moniker.

To date, we have magnificently managed to name two new llamas, seven chickens, nine cats and two puppies. But we are struggling with a suitable label for He who is currently known as Little Pig. Continue reading
